Aromatherapy is a beautiful example of how nature supports our healing. The fragrance of a flower, the freshness of a forest, the warmth of spices – all of these are expressions of the plant world reaching out to us. In aromatherapy we work with these essences in a conscious way to support body, mind and soul.

A Very Ancient Healing Art
Although the word “aromatherapy” is relatively modern, people have used aromatic plants and oils for thousands of years. Ancient civilizations burned resins such as frankincense and myrrh in ceremony, used aromatic oils for anointing, and worked with scent in healing and spiritual rituals. When we use essential oils today, we are connecting to this very old lineage of plant wisdom and sacred care.
What Is Aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy is a holistic healing practice that uses essential oils extracted from aromatic plants. “Holistic” means that we consider the whole person – body, mind and soul. Essential oils can be absorbed through the skin during massage or inhaled through the breath. Once inside the body, they interact with our physical systems and our nervous system, influencing how we feel and function.
Therapeutic Approaches to Aromatherapy
Over time different approaches to aromatherapy have developed:
- Some focus more on internal, medicinal use under professional guidance.
- Others emphasise the powerful effects of scent on the nervous system and emotions.
- Many practitioners, like myself, combine massage with essential oils to support relaxation, ease pain and encourage the body’s natural healing processes.
In my work I primarily use essential oils in massage and inhalation, always with respect for their potency and your unique needs.
How Essential Oils Work in the Body
Essential oils are highly concentrated plant extracts. They carry the plant’s aromatic compounds, which can:
- Penetrate the skin during massage
- Enter the bloodstream
- Travel through the olfactory (smell) pathways to parts of the brain connected with emotion and memory
Because of this, essential oils can influence both physical processes (such as circulation, muscle tension or inflammation) and emotional states (such as anxiety, low mood or mental fatigue).
Emotional & Energetic Benefits
The sense of smell is closely linked to memory and emotion. A single aroma can transport you to another time or instantly shift your mood. In aromatherapy we use this connection consciously:
- Calming oils may help soothe anxiety and restlessness.
- Uplifting oils can support low energy or low mood.
- Grounding oils can help you feel more present and centred.
On an energetic level, many people experience aromatherapy massage as deeply nurturing—a way to feel held, cared for and gently supported through life’s transitions.
Physical Benefits of Aromatherapy Massage
An aromatherapy massage session can support you in many ways:
- Relaxing the nervous system and easing stress
- Soothing tired or tense muscles
- Supporting circulation and lymphatic flow
- Helping the body release toxins more effectively
- Supporting the skin with oils chosen for your specific needs
Each session is personalised. We choose the essential oils according to your symptoms, preferences and where you are in your life at the moment.

Aromatherapy as a Spiritual Companion
For me, aromatherapy is not only physical medicine; it is also spiritual support. The plants offer their intelligence and life force to ours. When we combine the gentle power of touch with these essences, something sacred happens: body, mind and soul are invited back into conversation with one another.
